Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
The Rhinoplasty, otherwise commonly referred to as “a nose job”, derived from the Greek words, rhinos (nose) and plassein (to shape) is a medical or aesthetic procedure to improve the function and/or the shape of a human nose. A Rhinoplasty can be performed to meet aesthetic goals or for reconstructive purposes to correct trauma, birth defects or breathing problems.
It can be combined with other procedures such as chin, or lip augmentation to enhance the aesthetic results.
Sushruta, an important physician who lived in India around 500 BC, often regarded as the “father of plastic surgery”, first developed rhinoplasty, which he described in his text Sushruta Samhita. He and his later students and disciples used rhinoplasty to reconstruct noses that were amputated as a punishment for crimes. The techniques of forehead flap rhinoplasty he developed are practiced almost unchanged to this day. This knowledge of plastic surgery existed in India up to the late 18th century as can be seen from the reports published in Gentleman's Magazine (October, 1794).
To restore beauty and balance to the face, The Melrose Aesthetic Centre offers a non-surgical rhinoplasty, where simple injections of a dermal filler called Radiesse®, a soft tissue filler comprised of micro calcium spheres suspended in a gel like substance are used. This has proved to be the ideal substance to correct many of the minor deformities that exist either genetically or as a result of an accident or surgical procedure.
Science behind the treatment
Radiesse® is a soft tissue filler comprised of micro calicium spheres suspended in a gel like substance. Not only is Radiesse® used for the non-surgical Rhinoplasty but it is highly effective in the elimination of naso labial skin folds and other facial wrinkles, as well as facial contouring . Additionally, It is highly effective in reducing skin scarring and facial deformities caused by trauma and a number of clinical conditions such as acne. The calcium based micro-spheres act to stimulate the production of collagen, which is needed to keep the skin firm and younger looking. It is a temporary filling and extremely safe.
How long has it been available?
Radiesse® has been used for the past 30 years to correct imperfections and is now widely marketed in the USA, Canada, Europe and South Africa for cosmetic purposes.
Is treatment effective?
More than 4000 medical practitioners and specialists have been trained globally to administer the treatment. Several clinical studies and trials have all proven the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
Who is eligable?
People who have a crooked nose, a small dent or slight misformation on the nose that causes them dissatisfaction, or an unwanted hump on the bridge of the nose can successfully and safely be treated with a Radiesse® rhinoplasty. Additionally, people who have had a traumatic injury to the nose and cannot have surgery, or persons who have had a number of surgeries and can't have any more could be candidates for successful treatment with Radiesse®.
What are the results?
Excellent results can be seen immediately after treatment. The effects normally last between 15 and 18 months making it a cost-effective method.
Are there any side-effects?
Apart from mild reactions at the injected areas ranging from light swelling, redness, and irritation of the skin, there are no other side effects except in rare cases of allergic reactions. The side-effects resolve within a few hours to three days. Since the tissue filler is injected while a local anesthetic is used to dull any pain sensations, it requires little recovery time, so that you can return to normal work activities almost immediately after treatment.
How long does treatment take?
The treatment takes 30 minutes to an hour depending on the area of treatment.
How often is treatment repeated?
Since the effects are long lasting, the treatment need only be repeated after twelve months, although occasional touch ups may be needed. When soft tissue Rhinoplasty is performed, up to 3 treatments are performed over a couple of months to build up the desired structural appearance.
How much does it cost?
The cost of Radiesse® treatments vary according to the area being treated. The most obvious benefits are that it is performed without surgery, and at a fraction of the cost of a surgical procedure. It is highly recommended that you consult your Aesthetic Specialist at The Melrose Aesthetic Centre regarding your particular situation.
