Lip Augmentation & Definition

The Melrose Aesthetic Centre, a leader in the field of soft tissue augmentation with tissue fillers in South Africa, provides several innovative and exciting methods to restore a youthful look.

Our lips lose their fullness and definition as we grow older. They become thinner and show signs of vertical wrinkles. Since the lips are the most sensual part of the face, the use of tissue fillers to restore the lips, help people to regain full and youthful symmetric lips.

As we age our lips become thinner and lose volume. Full, well defined lips have always been associated with a youthful look. Smoking, pursing of the lips, natural aging, and sun exposure cause the lips to lose their definition over time. Vertical lines appear and lipstick tends to run into the lined areas. The Melrose Aesthetic Centre offers innovative advanced lip augmentation and definition treatments to help restore the sensuality of your lips.

Science behind the treatment

A treatment is made available to the client whereby soft tissue fillers are injected into the lips. The tissue fillers most commonly used are hyaluronic acid based such as Juvederm®, Restylane® or Perlane®. Collagen based fillers are also used. The lips regain their fullness and cornered definition.

  • Definition and contouring of the lip borders
  • Erasing of vertical wrinkles at the lip borders
  • Reduce vertical wrinkles on the lips
  • Desire fuller lips
  • Improve lip symmetry
  • Restore the sensuality of their lips

How long has it been available?

Lip augmentation and definition by means of the administration of fillers were first used in the 1990's. The safety and little side effects from the procedure have contributed to its popularity around the world. It is also now available in South Africa.

Is treatment effective?

In 2006 more than 78 000 successful lip enhancement treatments were administered in the USA. Most patients are happy with the end result and ecstatic with the youthful appearance of their lips.

Who is eligable?

Lip enhancement and definition treatments are well-suited for individuals who want fuller, more shapely lips, either to correct aging, or a natural facial shortcoming.

What are the results?

Depending on the treatment received, you will be able to see subtle, but definite changes within a day or two which can last up to 9 to 12 months. Wrinkles disappear, contouring is obtained, lip symmetry corrected, borders defined and lips appear fuller.

Are there any side-effects?

Ice is applied directly after the treatment to reduce swelling which will disappear after 20 to 48 hours. You should be able to return to work immediately after the treatment. You may feel a stinging sensation when injected. Allergic reactions to the chemicals used appear in a small percentage of people. You need to discuss your medical history with the plastic surgeon at your first consultation.

How long does treatment take?

The relatively painless procedure takes less than an hour.

How often is treatment repeated?

Repeating of the treatment should be undertaken every 12 months to ensure that the lips stay full. If the treatment is not repeated, the lips will gradually return to their original form.

How much does it cost?

It is an extremely cost effective method to regain youthful lips. Costs depend on the specific treatment and number of injections
