Hyperhidrosis is a condition of abnormal sweating caused by over stimulated sweat glands and affects three percent of the world population. Botox® treatments offer a safe non-surgical solution to Hyperhidrosis. The condition can cause extreme discomfort and even embarrassment. Patients however don't have to live with this condition for the rest of their lives. The Botox® treatment aids in the controlling of sweating by blocking the nerve messages to the glands. Once the glands relax, the excessive sweating stops at the treated areas which can include:

  • Palms
  • Under the feet
  • Underarms

Science Behind the Botox® Hyperhidrosis Treatment

It is a simple and safe procedure involving painless and minute injections into the affected areas. Botox® works by blocking messages to sweat from reaching the overactive sweat glands.

How long has it been available?

Botox® has been used with excellent results for the treatment of several medical and cosmetic conditions including Hyperhidrosis from the early 1980's.

Effectiveness of the treatment

In several critical trials more than two thirds of patients treated for Hyperhidrosis through Botox® injections, reported a 50% reduction in sweating.

Who is elegible?

Any person who suffers from excessive sweating can benefit from the Hyperhidrosis treatment.

What are the outcomes?

You can expect a significant reduction in sweating at the treated areas within two weeks. If one or two of the sweat glands were missed during treatment, a touch up treatment may be required. The results are temporary and two to three treatments a year should be administered to prevent the re-activation of the glands.

What are the side effects?

It is a relatively painless procedure with only light swelling and itching at the location of treatment. The symptoms will disappear within a few hours. A few patients experience headaches and flu-like symptoms for a day or two.

What are the costs?

The cost for Botox® Hyperhidrosis treatment starts at R4500 for both armpits, hands or feet.

How lon does the treatment take?

The entire Botox® treatment takes less than 30mins excluding the consult and is usually performed by a specially trained medical practitioner. The doctor is able to identify the exact areas where injections are required. You can resume your daily activities directly afterwards.

How often is the treatment repeated?

The Hyperhidrosis treatments should be repeated every four to six months to ensure that the condition doesn't return.
