Skin Care

Why is proper skin care so important?

The skin is the outer covering of the body, and, in humans, it is also our largest organ, although that fact is often not known. It guards the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs. That alone should make it important enough to give careful thought to skin care and maintenance, but unfortunately, for most of us, the basics of hygiene seem to be enough. It can never really be early enough to learn about, and exercise, proper skin care that goes beyond mere washing and moisturizing, and although we cannot completely halt the aging process, we can slow it down by taking care of our skin from a young age and help our children by teaching them about proper skin care.

If you are concerned that you may not be using optimal skin care tactics, The Melrose Aesthetic Centre, one of South Africa’s leading aesthetic and anti-aging specialists, can offer advice and direction, as well as recommendations for the skin care products that will best benefit you.

As our skin ages, it becomes thinner and more easily damaged, as well as suffering a fall in elasticity, and decreased blood flow. Intensifying this effect is the decreasing ability of skin to heal itself as a person ages. To help minimize the aging and damaging effects on the skin, some basic skin care routines and common sense should be learned and used.
Some of these practical routines would be:

  • Always use adequate sun protection
  • Wash your skin gently and use quality skin care products.
  • Replenish your fluid levels with water and juices to ensure that your skin stays moisturized.
  • Do not consume excessive amounts of alcohol
  • Keep the skin moisturized with good skin products for that purpose.
  • Eat enough fruits and vegetables to ensure you get adequate required Vitamins.
  • Eat three balanced meals a day that include fruit and food from all the food groups

If these common-sense routines are maintained, they go a long way in providing some of the tools we need for proper skin care. In addition, the use of the best skin care products you can afford will pay benefits in the long run. That means not only basics like moisturizers and cleansers, but also preventative treatments and anti-aging preparations for the skin.

If you have woken up one day looked in the mirror and been totally startled by what you see, want the key to the secret of facial rejuvenation, or need effective skin care treatment and how to go about selecting the best skin care products that will rejuvenate your skin, it’s time to do something about that now.

You are never too young to start taking care of your skin, and never too old to have them do something about helping restore it.
