Liposuction

Different Types Of Liposuction

Most people are not aware that there are different types of liposuction and are only informed about the simple procedure which is suction assisted fat removal. Basically a rod is inserted under the skin in the area where the fat is to be removed and then sucked or pumped away into a holding container. The other types of liposuction are known as lipoplasty, liposculpture and lipectomy and are slightly more complicated procedures than simple liposuction.

Lipoplasty liposuctionrefers to fat modelling which involves the removal of fat in the same manner as with simple liposuction, but in a way that shapes the body according to its natural contours. Laser and Ultrasonic techniques can also be used in the process of a lipoplasty to shape or model the fat. Liposculpture and lipectomy are more or less the same and refer to the removal of fat and replacement of that fat in another area of the body. This is a great alternative to using implants to mould specific areas of the body. These techniques are mainly used in the enlargement of buttocks and are not ideal for breast augmentations.

You also need to keep in mind that all forms of liposuction are performed under a general anaesthetic. General anaesthetic can only be used in healthy individuals who are under a certain specified body weight. Obese people are not candidates for this type of surgery and will first be required to loosen some of their own fat before the procedure can be performed. Dieting and exercise is always recommended before liposuction can take place in all candidates. An overall change in lifestyle will ensure that the fat stays off and the patient does not regain the weight after the procedure has been performed.

Laser Lipolysis – The Smart Lip Option

For those who might not know there is yet another option to choose other than liposuction. Commonly referred to as Smart Lipo, laser lipolysis is a less invasive procedure whereby a laser is used to vaporise, melt tissue and blood vessels. While liposuction does give quality results, its biggest limitation is that it the minimal skin retraction is achieved whereas laser lipolysis enhances and promotes skin contraction and elasticity on the treated areas.

Choosing between these techniques must be discussed with your aesthetic specialist. With their knowledge and experience with body shaping and modelling they will be able to make you look and feel great!
