EVENTS: CAPE TOWN AESTHETIC CONFERENCE

Marketing Director, Hardus Bester, recently addressed a group of aesthetic practitioners at The Cape Town Aesthetic Conference on How to Market an Aesthetic Clinic.
Hardus founded The Melrose Aesthetic Centre and built it from a small practice to the world-renowned establishment it is today.
We would like to thank the staff and management of 15 on Orange Hotel, who hosted and sponsored Hardus’ stay during his trip to Cape Town. 

NEW ADDITIONS: WELCOME

The new face in our front office is that of the ever-cheerful Esti Kok. With ample experience in the medical industry, Esti was a logical choice to take over the reins in our reception area. She exhibits boundless energy, drive and commitment to our clients and staff and we are very happy to have her on our team.
With the continued growth and expansion of The Melrose Aesthetic Centre, the company also developed the need to appoint an Operational Manager to oversee the day-to-day functioning of the clinic. We welcome Roxanne Byrne to our staff and wish her many happy years with us.

VALENTINE’S DAY

During the month of February we think of “Valentine’s Day” – which we celebrate on the 14th.
Although the exact origin of this day is surrounded in mystery, the main school of thought is that Saint Valentine was a bishop who lived in Rome during the rule of Emperor Claudius II, in the year 270 AD. During this time the golden era of the Roman Empire was slowly coming to an end, and in an attempt to strengthen his army, the emperor banned the institution of marriage, believing that unmarried men made better soldiers. Noting the despair of young lovers who weren’t allowed to marry, St Valentine sympathized by secretly joining them in matrimony. When arrested and jailed for his unlawful behaviour, it is said that St Valentine fell in love with his jailors’ daughter and shortly before his execution on the 14th of February wrote her a farewell message, signed “From Your Valentine”.
From that day forward Valentine’s Day has been associated with love and gives us the opportunity to celebrate the beauty of love – or in our case, the love of beauty – when we get to spoil that someone special in our lives. NEW TREATMENTS

This year The Melrose Aesthetic Centre has some new products and treatments available to help make you look and feel even more special…

LASER LIPOLYSIS

The most recent addition to our range of treatments is the increasingly popular Laser Lipolysis. This body sculpting procedure is a relatively painless way of getting rid of excess centimetres in the targeted areas and will reduce fat in areas traditionally resistant to diet or exercise, such as the ‘love handles’, abdomen, thighs, arms, ankles and knees. Laser Lipolysis differs from Liposuction in that the latter uses an invasive mechanical technique to break down the fat cells and remove the tissue by suction. Laser Lipo uses a thermal effect to gently heat up and eliminate fat cells by liquefying the tissue and making it easier for the body to naturally metabolize the fat.
An additional benefit of Laser Lipolysis is that the heat of the laser stimulates the production of new collagen fibres, which results in the tightening of the skin overlying the treated area. This makes it an effective treatment in firming the skin, for example post-pregnancy.
The Laser Lipolysis procedure is performed under sterile conditions in a clinical environment which we’ve created especially for this treatment.

 

COSMELAN® DEPIGMENTATION TREATMENT

Our country has one of the most pleasant summer climates, which we regularly take advantage of by spending more time outdoors, especially over the holiday period. But being outdoors in the sun can cause excess pigmentation to develop.

Cosmelan® Depigmentation treatment is a relatively painless treatment with very little down time and is suitable for all skin phototypes. This user-friendly treatment involves the application of the Cosmelan® mask at our offices which is then simply washed off at home after a few hours. The use of the accompanying products over the next few weeks aids in further reducing and preventing the formation of pigmentation.

THE MELROSE AESTHETIC CENTRE FEATURED IN “WOMAN & HOME” AND “VROUE-KEUR” MAGAZINES

This year The Melrose Aesthetic Centre kicked off the year with a mention in two leading women’s magazines. Being leaders in the areas of non-surgical and aesthetic treatments we were approached by the beauty editors of these two magazines for contributions to their articles about anti-ageing treatments. An article in Woman & Home’s February issue feature our BBL (Broad Band Light) laser treatment while an article in the “Vroue Keur “of 15 January focused on the increasing popularity of cosmetic and aesthetic procedures among men.  GLITTERATI ON “KYKNET”

We are proud to be associated with Kyknet’s “Glitterati” lifestyle programme, currently being aired on Saturday evenings at 21h00. We are taking care of presenter Yvonne van den Bergh’s skin care needs and this production will be the fifth television project which we’ve been commissioned to participate in. Previous celebrities which we’ve performed treatments on include Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu, Edith Venter and Tselane Tambo.

 

 JACQUES BREL TICKET GIVE-AWAY

The musical spectacular “Jacques Brel is alive and well and living in Paris” will be performed at the Old Mutual Theatre on the Square from 16 Feb to 13 March 2010. This critically acclaimed production includes performances by Chrissy Caine, Graham Clarke, David Chevers and Daneel Uys.

It’s been an eventful few months at The Melrose Aesthetic Centre and as usual we like to keep our clients updated on the latest news from our side. Here’s what we’ve been up to lately…

DR GORDON COHEN APPEARS ON SABC 3’s “3-TALK WITH NOELEEN”

We hope you had the opportunity to watch Dr Cohen’s appearance on 3-Talk with Noeleen on the 24th of August. The discussion revolved around non-surgical treatments such as those offered here at The Melrose Aesthetic Centre as well as plastic surgery. The panel consisted of a few select specialists who are considered to be experts in their respective medical fields. The programme was highly educational and we were very proud to once again have been represented in the broadcasting media by Dr Cohen.

DR XENEPHIN LUDICK SPEAKS AT ELLE WORKSHOP

In July Dr Ludick was invited to address an audience of Elle readers at one of the magazine’s monthly workshops held at Hyde Park Shopping Centre. The topic of the workshop was “Anti-Ageing” and Dr Ludick had a captive audience in the 100+ Elle readers who attended the workshop. The evening started off with drinks and canapés, followed by informative demonstrations and speeches by a few select speakers, including Dr Ludick. Afterwards the members of the audience were given the opportunity to ask questions and the general consensus among all those who attended was that the event was a huge success and well worth repeating in the near future.

THE MELROSE AESTHETIC CENTRE PERFORM LIVE TREATMENTS AT SANDTON CITY BRIDAL EXPO

At the end of July we embarked on one of our regular exhibitions at Sandton City Shopping Centre. The occasion was Sandton City’s annual Bridal Expo and we were there for the full duration of the Expo, from 29 July until 3 Aug. The live treatments performed by our medical specialists were extremely popular and was a major contributing factor in the success of our exhibition. We thank all of you who came by to support us and if you couldn’t make it – we hope to see you at our next exhibition (date to be advised).

WELCOME SUZELLE MAREE

After a long search for the right person to “man” our front office we were lucky enough to find the lovely Suzelle Maree. Suzelle has both formal training and extensive experience in the beauty industry and we hope she has a long and happy stay with us. Some of our clients have already met her and if you haven’t been for a while, Suzelle is looking forward to meeting you soon.

DR COHEN ATTENDED the “EMAA European Anti-Ageing Congress”

At The Melrose Aesthetic Centre we pride ourselves in the fact that we constantly strive to remain informed and updated on the latest developments and trends in non-surgical treatments. In keeping with this objective Dr Cohen went to the EMAA European Anti-Ageing Congress in Paris, France from 2 – 3 October. The conference included practical lectures by experts in anti-ageing as well as workshops with live demonstrations of aesthetic procedures. Dr X Ludick and Hardus attended the same congress in March this year held at Monte Carlo, Monaco.

CHERIE’S DANCE COMPETITION

Huge congratulations to our laser therapist Cherie who was 1st runner-up in her dancing competition held at Gold Reef City on the 9th of September. Although she’s only been in training for a few months, Cherie managed to kick dirt (or is that glitter?) in the eyes of many fellow competitors who have been at it for much longer. Many long hours of training paid off and coupled with an outfit and hair-do to match there was no stopping her from earning her rightful place on the proverbial podium.

FOCUS ON FIRMING

Skin rejuvenation and tightening with SkinTyte® laser treatment

This month we focus on the treatment of ageing skin with the Sciton BBL SkinTyte® profile laser system. This advanced method of laser treatment is utilized in the firming and tightening of the areas being treated and also improves uneven skin tone and texture. This body sculpting procedure involves the removal of fatty tissue by the introduction of heat (laser) to the targeted areas.
