Chemical peels still feature under the top and safest skin care for acne, scars & wrinkles despite new technologies such as laser resurfacing available today. At The Melrose Aesthetic Centre we make use of both methods of skin care for acne, scars & wrinkles because of their effectiveness, skin rejuvenation properties and the general improvement in skin condition. There are various levels of peels that can be performed ranging from superficial to deep phenol treatments. The specific treatment will depend on the skin type, damage level of the skin and the personal preferences of the client. When deciding on the chemical peel to be used we consider the strength of peel required, the concentration and the specific skin type.

When it comes to acne scars & scar removal – how are scars formed questions by patients, the answer is that acne scars are mostly formed by inflammation of the tissue at the site of the acne lesion. Acne scars are mainly damaged dermis areas on the skin. The papule, cyst or pustule inflammation can be caused when the pores or follicles become congested with dead skin cells, in some cases bacteria, and excess oil on the skin. As congestion increases the pores swell which leads to the breaking of the follicle walls. If the walls are broken near the skin surface area, the wounds can be seen as superficial and will normally heal without permanent scarring. If the breaking of the follicle walls occurs deeper, the infected material will move into the dermis area. This causes scarring as skin tissue will then be destroyed in the process.
