I have tried everything, from weighing of foods, counting kilojoules, injections, diet shakes, diet pills and powders, fasting and some more.

I originally visited the clinic for Botox injections for my migraine. I asked Gordon about the Detox, Wellness & Weight Management Programme and it seemed like something I could do. I liked the fact that there is a time limit to the programme 12 weeks in total of which the first 6 weeks were detox. Gordon discussed the programme and also asked me to do blood tests.

My blood tests revealed that I was insulin resistant and if I don’t get treatment and change my lifestyle, I will develop adult onset diabetes. An overall assessment was made and I at last found out why I have a weight problem, and why I have not been able to keep off the weight I loose. The first 2 days on the programme were difficult, I had headaches and felt tired and listless. Fortunately I started on a weekend and it did not disrupt my work or social life. I started to exercise by week 3 and can feel the difference in my energy levels and overall well-being.

This programme does not focus on how much weight I have to loose, but on feeling good, feeling satisfied and feeling healthy. The visits to the clinic are important firstly to talk over the progress and secondly to get motivation to carry on. It is not always easy, I travel a lot and have a very busy work schedule, but with tips on how to deal with them I mostly stayed on the programme.

One of the reasons I stick to the programme is the ‘no weighing in’ policy. Loosing weight is at this stage secondary to me feeling good. Previously when I was on a diet, the weighing each week was a nightmare. I stressed so much and if I lost some weight I will immediately ‘celebrate’ by eating too much, and subsequently feeling bad.

For the first time in my life I am managing my lifestyle based on a medical and wellness basis. O, and by the way, the weight also came down. After 5 weeks I have lost 10kgs, but most important I feel great!
